Freud was the first to compare and contrast depressive (melancholic) state the normal experience of grief. He found an important difference between these two conditions: with normal grief reactions experienced by the outside world how to reduce in any significant way (loss of significant person), whereas in the depressive state that is experienced as lost or destroyed, is a part of himself. Consequently, in some sense the opposite of depression is the experience of grief. People who undergo the process of grief normal way, do not become depressed, even with the condition that they are deeply troubled over a period of time after a bereavement or loss. Psychologist, psychotherapist note that the cognitive, emotional, sensory processes and imagination is often drastically inhibited when the sudden clinical depression. On a serious violation of the end of the spectrum are patients who ruthlessly hate myself and experiencing hallucinations and prior to the opening of antidepressants could absorb years of dedicated efforts of therapists and still uncritically believe that the best way to save the world is destroying itself. Freud consistently developed the idea that the major source of depression is the tendency to experience premature loss. In accordance with the classical theory of psychoanalysis, assumes that people become fixed on the infantile stage, during which they were spoiled or subjected to deprivation, depressed individuals are seen as survivors too early or abrupt weaning or other early frustration, which exceeded their ability to adapt. On this view was influenced by "oral" quality of people with depressive character, it was found that depressed people are often full of people, they usually like to eat, drink, smoke, talk, kiss and get other oral pleasure. They tend to describe their emotional experience, using the analogy with food and hunger. Freud had observed that people in the doldrums sending the majority of their discontent is not on the other, but at himself, hating himself without any correlation with the real flaws. This phenomenon was described as "sadism (aggression) against himself" or "inward anger. Successive generations of psychologists had to explain why the man has learned to direct angry response to himself and what he needs. Model inward-aggression agreement with observations that depressed people often spontaneously and without conflict are experiencing feelings of anger. Instead, they feel guilty - the universal sense of guilt. Depressive people are painfully aware, each having made "sin" - in that they ignore their own good deeds, for a long time going through each of his selfish expression. Grief - still one of the main experiences of people experiencing depression. Evil and injustice caused them suffering. Grief experiencing clinical depression, people are so obvious that in the public consciousness - and, apparently, now and in the professional, - the terms "grief" and "depression" is synonymous. As already noted, many people free from obvious symptoms of depression, have a depressive personality, and grief and depression (at least to some extent) are not mutually exclusive states. Therefore the use of psychotherapy terms "grief" and "depression" as synonyms is wrong, but psychologically healthy and spiritually developed man with a depressive character and can transmit sensitive listener a hint of inner melancholy. Despite the fact that they are so broken that they can not function normally, depressed people can easily enjoy and even admired. Since they are directing their hatred and criticism inward rather than outward, they are usually generous, sensitive and patient with the shortcomings. Because they allow all doubts in favor of others and strive to maintain relationships at all costs, these patients are true connoisseurs of psychotherapy.
